Is it true that Linux is free ...???

Have you ever heard a statement saying that Linux is free? I'm sure ... all computer users, both of which have not been, are, will or has been using Linux must have heard this kind of statement.

Is it true that Linux is free ...???

It's not about Free ... it's FREEDOM

Linux is Free ... so many statements that we often hear. The word Free if interpreted in various countries it has two meanings, namely free and independent. And free word distinctly different meaning. For example the word Free Sex ... have you ever mean free sex ... ? Of course not, because in this free sex free sex has meaning, which means obviously very different from sex for free.

Well, unfortunately many countries in fact many people prefer to associate Linux with the meaning of the word free, not free or independent. In fact ... Richard Stallman - founder of the Free Software Foundation (FSF), in his book Free as in FREEDOM - more linking Linux with the word free or independent, rather than free.

So, Linux - according to the founder of the FSF - is not talking about Free (Free), but Freedom (Freedom).

Errors on Linux's continuing

But ... for some reason many countries the freedom and independence is more difficult to pronounce than the word free. No wonder that even today is still quite a lot of Linux enthusiasts who prefer to mention it's Free Linux than Free or Freedom.

But actually, to some extent this can we understand ... because it attempts to popularize various negaramemang not an easy task. Many computer users in Indonesia that have been lulled asleep with the convenience and use of pirated software and even tightly bound in the fetters of software such as cigarette addicts or narcotic dependence is hard to let go.

That is why the word free is more widely used to introduce Linux than words free or independent. Because in fact it was easier to offer something for free rather than getting someone to struggle to break away from the comfort that has been tied and bound for decades.

Why Linux is used commercially?

The next question ... If Linux is free, why should commercialized?
Is it lawful and appropriate trade something if it turns out that we can get it for free ...?

Before you answer, try to answer the following questions:

Have you ever seen sites that trade in CD / DVD Linux ...?
Have you ever seen a magazine about Linux bookstores sold ...?
Have you seen the famous book publishers sell books Linux?
Have you read the Linux training offerings that cost was not cheap ...?
What is your answer ...? Not ever ...? Liar ...!!!
In fact, even this site you can clearly see the CD / DVD / Book of Linux sold ... and not provided for free.

Even if you want to be extended again, the list of parties that commercialize Linux was very long, and also had penetrated into the scale of multinational companies. Do not believe ...?!!!

Why big companies sell Linux?

Consider the following list of major companies that have been commercializing Linux:

Motorola, Panasonic, HTC, Samsung, OpenMoko, Accton, Grundig, Dlink, Haier, and many more have been selling phones based on Linux (see Linux Devices site)
HP, Dell, Everex, Asus, Acer and many other computer companies to peddle Linux computer.
Disney / Pixar, Dreamworks, Sony, ILM and many other film studios use Linux to produce his films. Are you able to see his movies for free ... ? of course not. Even to see the movie bajakannyapun you can not get it for free.
Google - the search engine giant - are using Linux for the computer, but why also commercialize its products (read: AdWords)?
So, what open-source software does Google use Itself?
DiBona: We use the Linux kernel. We've got the GNU tools, We use a lot of the compiler collection from the Free Software Foundation (FSF). We use some Apache libraries - We do not use the Apache Web servers so Often, but We do use a lot of Their libraries. We use a lot of OpenSSL and OpenSSH. We use languages like Python and C. We use a fair amount of MySQL, all Kinds of Things.
Microsoft - the software giant considers Linux as a cancer - it is then also through the hands of commercializing Linux partner, Novell.
So ... If Linux is free, why so many people who mengkomersilkannya ...? Is it worth and deserve to commercialize 'free goods' such as Linux?

Linux is [NOT] Free
Yes ... Linux is [basically] Free ...!
But to get something gratispun sometimes we can not get for free ... Confused?!! The following examples clarify what is meant above:

Request a CD Linux to Canonical: pay Internet access and electricity plus postage
Ask Linux CD from the Government: the funds from? officials ... ? enggaklah, all paid from the money people.
Download Linux directly from the Internet: pay for Internet access and electricity plus ISOnya then burning to CD / DVD
Message CD / DVD from the Linux store: pay a few thousand to hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars
Copy CD / DVD Linux from a friend: pay CD / DVD blank and the power to burn
Linux Magazine Subscriptions: pay a few hundred thousand dollars every month
Learning from the book Linux: out money to buy at bookstores
Learning from the Linux training: again paid, and usually not cheap
Advertising on Google Adwords which was also used Linux: who says free ...?
Buy Motorola Krave a Linux-based: pay too bro .. where there is free?
Buy Asus EeePC is also Linux-based: free ...? can ...! I'll ask Asus sponsor sites for LINUX PC-to EeePCLinux for free:)
Are you still convinced that Linux is 100% free ... ? Or you still insist on wanting Linux for free as happened in this conversation (funny but quite annoying, and unfortunately things like this can be easily found in Indonesia:).

It is clear that what is touted as Linux is free is a big lie. Do not ever believe that someone says Linux is free. To get the Freedom and Independence of Linux is clear there is a price to pay. Especially if you want to achieve freedom and escape from the shackles of pirated software, of course there is the struggle that you can never get it for free.

Even the people we too should strive to escape from the shackles of colonialism. The same is true for us if you want to get the Freedom and Independence of Linux. You should dare to struggle to break away from the comfort provided by pirated software over the decades. There's a price you'll pay to reach Freedom (Freedom and Independence), and of course it can not be obtained Free (free).

Believe me friends ... struggle was necessary. Shackled 28 years (see History of Operating Systems from DOS, Windows to Linux) does not mean we should give up on the state and make it as an excuse to continue to be bound in fetters convenience of pirated software. Even after 350 years-even we can still rise up for freedom and independence.

But ... of course we do not need to repeat that mistake again. Enough for 28 years chained, you do not have to wait another 350 years. The struggle to achieve freedom and independence is indeed heavy and certainly not free. However, if you want to see Indonesia Risen, start from yourself, start your computer by freeing the content from the shackles of pirated software.

So ... once again do not ever believe that someone says Linux is Freedom and Independence Free.

Linux ... Free as in FREEDOM
Imagine a place ...
Where everything is possible
Where everyone can fly
Be Linux ... Be Free
